Stress and Anger Management Program (STAMP) for ASD

Description: STAMP is a research-based parent-assisted cognitive behavioral intervention to improve emotion regulation skills in children ages 4–7 with Autism Spectrum Disorders or anxiety/anger difficulties.

Time: 9:00am–3:00pm

Location: North End Center, 300 Turner Street, NW, Blacksburg, Virginia

Intended Audience: Professionals and educators interested in learning how to implement STAMP. Attendance will be capped at 12 participants.

Cost: $150.00 per person. Cost includes a copy of the STAMP manual and a light lunch. Checks can be made out to Treasurer, Virginia Tech. Mail payment after January 1, 2016 to Dr. Angela Scarpa, Department of Psychology (0436), 109 Williams Hall, Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA 24061-0436.

Additional Information: Participants will be asked to complete program evaluation forms before and after the seminar and a follow-up evaluation three months after completing the training.

Virginia Association for Early Childhood Education: The Happiness of Learning, 2016 VAECE Conference

Description: Three days of engaging professional development, networking, and reflection during this year's VAECE Conference. All day institutes offer an opportunity to delve more deeply into a few key topics in Early Childhood Education. Dr. Jean will be rocking the house with two fabulous sessions. One session focuses on better brains, while the other focuses on literacy and will have everyone a-rockin' and a-rhymin'.

Exploring Social Emotional Development: Practices to Meet the Diverse Needs of All Young Children

Description: This one-day conference is a long-awaited occasion to gather educators, administrators and related service providers to hear from national and international speakers and other guests about the importance of supporting and promoting social/emotional growth in early childhood. Conference topics include:

  • building social emotional skills through literacy
  • mindfulness in young children
  • supporting the building of social skills with visuals
  • embedding skill-building opportunities throughout the natural activities of the day
  • using a defined process to support  more challenging behavior,
  • facilitating friendships in early childhood
  • using data to enhance routines, behaviors and monitor progress

2016 Annual Virginia Head Start Conference: Keys to Unlock the Future

Description: The annual training conference is VAHSA's signature event held each spring, drawing hundreds of staff, families, and community supporters. Professional development on timely topics includes brain development, inclusion, the importance of fathers and how to include them, and early literacy, just to mention a few. There is a topic for everyone, from family member to administrator.
