Autism is a developmental disability which affects the neurological functioning of the brain. Autism Spectrum Disorders are typically diagnosed by age three and are defined by a “triad” of common characteristics including:

  • social challenges

  • communication differences

  • repetitive behaviors or obsessive interests

Training and Technical Assistance in this area serves to assist school divisions in building local capacity to establish and implement effective educational supports and programming for students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).

What are the Autism Train the Trainer Teams?

The train trainer model is a long term effort designed to develop teams of educators and parents who work collaboratively to ensure quality educational programs for students with ASD in their local educational agency by providing trainings and consultations. The goal for this project is to assist teams in providing technical assistance to educators within their division and region to address the educational needs of students with ASD. Teams receive support from local T/TAC personnel under the auspices of the State Autism Priority Project.
