Gillian obtained her Master's degree in learning disabilities from Virginia Tech in the spring of 2005. She also graduated from the occupational therapy program at the University of Durban-Westville in South Africa in 1994. She has worked in pediatrics since that time in a variety of settings, such as school-based practice, clinic-based practice, preschool and infant programs, home care, and private practice in the USA and abroad.

Gillian has studied sensory integration theory and practice for many years. She has lectured extensively on sensory integration and other areas of pediatric occupational therapy for general and academic audiences. Since moving to the USA in 1997 and taking the position as Severe Disabilities Technology Coordinator, she continues her work in sensory integration and assistive technology, providing workshops/training and consultations to Southwest Virginia school districts.
