Kathy Shelor received her BS
and MS degrees from Radford University. She has 33 years of teaching experience in the public school
system. Kathy completed the requirements
of professional developer through the University of Kansas in both Content
Enhancement and Learning Strategies.
She has worked with Radford University’s Highly Qualified Professional Development Institutes and the Virginia Department of Education’s Content Teaching Academy. In 2002, Kathy was named the Virginia Council of Learning Disabilities Teacher of the Year.She has been a VCLD board member since 2003.
Her position in the public school system has provided her with instructional coaching experience and allowed her to provide support services to the staff throughout the school system. She worked to implement writing strategies resulting in higher SOL writing scores and coordinated the Mentor Program as well as provided training in that area. She piloted a Duo English 9 course as part of the high school reform initiative.
