Math Tools for Teachers
Mathematics teachers and the special educators who co-teach with mathematics teachers in middle and high schools in Virginia are called upon to teach students about mathematical concepts in a style that promotes mathematical thinking that is purposeful. Teaching in this way involves teaching for understanding, and for many students, this involves taking into consideration important universal design principles when designing lessons. The videos and resources on this page have been designed to promote multiple and flexible means of presentation, expression and engagement (Rose and Meyer, 2002) in math classrooms across the state of Virginia.
| Tool | Lesson Name | Virginia SOL | Resource |
| Algeblocks Lab 2-5 | Using Zero Pairs to Add a Positive Number | 7.5 - The student will formulate rules for and solve practical problems involving basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) with integers. | |
| Algeblocks Lab 3-4 | Using Opposites to Subtract Integers | 7.5 - The student will formulate rules for and solve practical problems involving basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) with integers. | |
| Algeblocks Lab 4-3 | Multiplying Posititve and Negative Numbers | 7.5 - The student will formulate rules for and solve practical problems involving basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) with integers. | |
